What are people saying about Garrett?
“I had my assessment last night with Garrett. He did a fantastic job! I can’t brag on him enough. He really took the time to explain everything he was doing and was very informative on the mobility issues I have and how they affect my current training. He also showed me stretching and foam rolling techniques to help improve my mobility restrictions.Thank you so much for this opportunity. It was very helpful in understanding the reason for my limitations and how to probably address them. This knowledge will definitely help improve my training and potential for improvement.” – Angelia H
“As an endurance athlete, I have been dealing with tendonitis in my right hamstring as well as a tight lower back the last several months. I met Garrett at the Nashville Triathlon Expo in February and have been going to see him the last 3 weeks for ART treatments. Just in those 3 weeks, I have seen a remarkable difference in my right leg including overall more strength / power during my runs. Garrett has been great not only with his ART treatments but he has taken the time to give me stretching and strengthening exercises that specifically target the hamstring and glute areas. Thank you Garrett for your patience and ART work as I get ready for the 2015 triathlon season..! Much appreciated, Dave” – Dave K
“I have trained with Garrett every week since July 2014 and have seen a huge improvement in my overall body strength, speed, and agility. As a once college soccer player, strength and injury prevention is of utmost importance to me. But after college I never felt like going to the gym on my own to lift weights. Now I train with Garrett, who leads a specialized small-group ultimate frisbee training to ready us for the upcoming season. With each training session, he provides a variety of exercises that work your whole body AND test your mental toughness. Not only is it a great way to build our strength in the off-season and speed/endurance during the season, it’s also a fun workout that I look forward to every week. Garrett is always prepared and very professional – taking notes on what weights we use each week for reference the following week and changing up sets to fit our needs. He’s also just an awesome person, who cares about his clients and takes time to get to know them.” – Colleen C
“Garrett’s active release technique (ART) rehabilitation helped me regain full use of my arm!
I broke the radial head in my left elbow in April 2015. The PT recommended by my orthopaedic specialist released me after 3 sessions, still unable to straighten my arm to full extension or engage my tricep muscle. Her recommendation? To “keep stretching.”
A friend recommended I seek out an ART practitioner and I found Garrett…. There was immediate improvement after our very first session. And I am exceptionally happy to say that after 7 sessions, I am at 100% and able to return to some of my favorite activities which include motorcycling and yoga.
Garrett is friendly and knowledgeable. He explains what he it doing, how it works, and what you need to do to maximize the benefit of his work. If you’re willing to put in the effort, Garrett’s expertise will help you get where you want to be!” – Shannon P
“I’ve been training with Garrett since July 2014 with a group of my ultimate frisbee teammates. I have seen a definite improvement in my athletic ability. It’s easy to makes excuses to not go to the gym, but I look forward to each session with Garrett. He has created a customized set of workouts for us to get ready for the upcoming season. Each session builds on the previous one encouraging us to do more. He takes the time to explain the exercises and what benefits they have. He makes you want to push yourself to do your best and continue the work outside of the gym. I couldn’t have asked for a better trainer and can’t wait to see what this season has in store for us.” – Jessi N
“As an older triathlete who has had several surgeries, having an athletic trainer who is also A.R.T. certified offers many benefits from recovery to overall performance with proper muscle movement. Garrett is able to zero in on areas that need strengthening, however, when I stress a muscle too far, he treats the muscle area with A.R.T. to reduce potential injury. In addition, I have discovered getting an ART treatment prior to my workout helps improve my range of motion and overall muscle strength to maximize the workout. Over the last 3 months, my overall recovery from one workout to the next is much faster and less painful!” – Susan W
“Garrett McLaughlin is amazing. I moved to Nashville from San Francisco at the end of July and once settled I wanted to find someone to help me with my ongoing and chronic frozen shoulder problems. I contacted Garrett through the ART website and I have to say that I have made more progress in the last 4 weeks with Garrett than I did in the previous 6 months with an ART Chiropractor in San Francisco – I had given up, thinking I would have to live with my chronic pain indefinitely. Just amazing. He uses his excellent ART training in conjunction with a customized strength and rehabilitation program so effectively. I’ve never had this kind of attention and is exactly what I’ve needed. He is the only one that has really understood how to achieve my goal of not only ‘unfreezing’ my shoulder but getting me back on track and hopefully swimming again. I haven’t felt this optimistic in over 6 years. Thank you Garrett!!!” – Alice T
“I highly recommend Garrett for Active Release Technique Treatments for painful arm muscles from injuries.
I injured my left arm in mid-October. I tried exercises to strengthen my muscles and hopefully ease the pain, but nothing was helping. I knew about Active Release Technique (ART) from a chiropractor in PA and felt that might help, but kept putting off making an appointment. Finally in late February I had enough of the pain and made an appointment with Garrett for him to work on my arm. He is certified in ART and he did a wonderful job. I was 90% better after my first visit. I had several more treatments and although occassionally I am still sore, I have much more function of my arm. I am pleased that I didn’t have to see an orthopedic surgeon or other doctor who would have put me on pain pills, but not solve the problem.
He was fantastic to work with and doesn’t keep you coming back.” – Pat A
“Garrett has helped me make more progress meeting my fitness goals in the three months I have worked with him than I was able to achieve on my own in the last three years. He listened to my goals, planned workouts with a variety of exercises that helped me toward those goals and was patient when I needed extra instruction to get an exercise right. But I think most important for me was Garrett’s ability to get me to try a few more reps or a little more weight without raising his voice. And I can see the results of Garrett’s work with me every time I look in the mirror!” – Mike S
“I started training with Garrett, at Physiofit, a little over a year ago. I came in looking to get back in shape to play ultimate frisbee on a nationally competitive level after taking a yearlong hiatus. With Garrett’s expertise, I have excelled at every aspect of my sport beyond prior performance standards to which I have held myself, and I have remained injury free. I had to readjust my timing on jumping to catch because my vertical increased by such a tremendous amount, and I am now able to keep up with and make the play over competitors ten years younger than myself! I am also able to change direction much more quickly allowing me an even greater advantage over my opponents. Needless to say, I have been very impressed by Garrett’s proficiency in sports performance, but he also displays a strong passion to help his clients and is able to connect with them personally, providing further motivation. In fact, I have found all of the trainers at Physiofit to be much more personable and invested in their clients than other gyms I have trained at previously.” – Jackie T
“I recently went to see Garrett to have Active Release Therapy performed on my shoulder. In 2012 I had shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum and impingement. I completed the PT and had no pain at all, until I fell in June of 2013. I returned to my surgeon and had an MRI that showed I had bruised my rotator cuff. I completed PT on my shoulder again (home therapy) and also had two rounds of steroids and a cortisone injection. My surgeon said the next step would be surgery again to remove the scar tissue. I experienced pain and occasional numbness in my hand, everyday since my fall in June, but did not want to have surgery again. I found out about ART (Active Release Therapy) by doing a google search for alternatives to surgery. There were only about 5 providers in the Nashville Area. I decided to try Garrett b/c I liked his educational background. I met with him for my initial session and during that time he worked on my shoulder area. The ART was not painful at all, and my shoulder was only a little sore the following day. After the initial soreness wore off (which was very minimal), I realized I could move my shoulder freely without the “locking” sensation and pain I had been experiencing. I even returned to the tennis court and played in an advanced level clinic and had no problem whatsoever. I had such good results with my shoulder I returned after a few weeks to have him work on the area around my elbow (that I had also been having some pain with since my falll). I experienced the same results after just one ART session. A minimal amount of soreness the next day and now completely pain free. I would recommend making an appointment with Garrett to find out about ART, for anyone that is having pain. I can’t believe that 30 min. of ART has prevented my need to go back in for another shoulder surgery. Since my two sessions, I have played in several tennis clinics, and am having no problem whatsoever. In the future, I will definitely return to Garrett before making any appt. with a surgeon. I feel such relief that shoulder surgery is no longer in my future. I am so thankful that I discovered ART and Garrett is wonderful to work with.” – Heather S
“Garrett has been teaching the fit 4-50 class for a few months now and he has been great at working with all of us. (We sometimes have upwards of 30 people in the class). He shows great patience, is calm and has a great sense of humor. He explains each exercise clearly and watches to make sure we understand and do the steps correctly. He is very organized and clearly has been trained well. I feel as though I have learned so much from him. All of us in the class really appreciate all the thought and planning he puts into each class. He makes the work-out fun!” – Paula A

“The Fit for 50 class, which Garrett teaches, has helped me achieve increasingly higher levels of fitness compared to my peers. The emphasis on strength training has made it possible for me to participate in activities such as cross country skiing, snowshoeing and climbing Mayan temple ruins with confidence. Continue to challenge us!” – Maria L
“Garrett is an awesome coach and trainer. Of course he is knowledgeable about human anatomy. But more important is his ability to understand what clients want and how best to encourage them to achieve their goals. Some clients just need encouragement; some require a gentle “push.” But regardless, Garrett maintains a “light” atmosphere in which everyone thrives. With his support I lost 18 pounds in 8 weeks, felt better about myself and my ability to keep losing, and had a lot of fun.” –Rick H
“I took a group exercise class geared for the over 50 year old crowd with Garrett for one year. I liked how he was so descriptive of each exercise, it’s benefits and his care with guiding us toward the level of exercise we were capable of. Garrett is passionate about his clients and always thoughtful and well prepared. He has a lovely personality…soft spoken but fun. You can trust Garrett to do his best and make you your best.” – Gerry T
“Garrett was so helpful after I received surgery for a low back issue. He was able to help me recover safely and build strength so that that issue will not happen again. I have worked with him one on one and also in a small group. He really gets to know you and offers an all encompassing approach to wellness.” – Emily V
“I belong to a group named Your Turn based in Kalamazoo, Garrett provided our group with an hour session on warm up exercises. I took away much more that night. Garrett helped me realize that ALL movement is necessary to become healthy. He continues to help me empower myself through his website! Thanks Garrett for a priceless experience.” – Cindy T
“Garrett made such a difference in our “Fit 4 50″ class! He brought us a challenging workout each class period that helped us become comfortable with a wide range of exercises, strength training, balance, and coordination! I was always energized after our class! I am very grateful to have had Garrett as an instructor!” – Lynn R
“Garrett taught a class called Fit for 50. The group was primarily women, with a few men attending. Garrett was very cognizant of past and potential injuries common to our age group. He has the perfect personality for his profession. He is kind and has an easy rapport with clients. He empowers without overpowering. Our class was just brokenhearted when he moved to Tennessee. Our loss is Tennessee’s gain.” – Carla L
“I know Garrett as a coworker from Bronson Athletic Club in Kalamazoo MI. His knowledge and passion for fitness is top notch. What makes Garrett extra special is that he is also very professional and understands the unique relationship between a personal trainer and a client. I am still in mourning that he is not at our club anymore. Kalamazoo’s loss is Nashville’s gain.” – Lynn M
